Am I ready to take a distance learning course?
The academic preparation and skills
required for successfully completing a distance learning course are similar to those for classroom
courses. Distance learning courses, however, are not
for everyone. Students who may do well in a classroom
learning environment may find that distance learning
is not suited to their learning style. Your readiness to take a distance learning
course will depend on a number of factors:
- your
interest in the subject matter
- self-discipline
-
the ability to take the initiative in completing
course work
- motivation
- a willingness to work in a
self-paced learning environment
- basic
computer skills
Most students find that the amount of
time and work they spend in a distance learning course
is equal to, if not greater than, that of a
traditional classroom course. They also find,
however, that distance learning offers greater
convenience and flexibility than classroom courses and
typically provides more opportunities for
interacting with their instructors and fellow
students. Here are some Keys
to Success for Online Learning (PowerPoint).
